UN Report Confirms Famine in Gaza as Israel Rejects Starvation Claims

A UN-backed report has confirmed the outbreak of famine in Gaza City and surrounding areas for the first time, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

How many people are starving in Gaza?

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), more than 500,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are at risk of “starvation, destitution and death.” The report further warns that catastrophic food insecurity could soon spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.

In response, the Israeli Foreign Ministry dismissed the findings, insisting that “there is no famine in Gaza.”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the situation as a “man-made disaster” and called for unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza in order to prevent further tragedy.

The release of the report coincides with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement that his cabinet has approved a new military assault on Gaza City. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated it has directed doctors and humanitarian workers to begin evacuation preparations ahead of the offensive.

International news outlets, including the BBC, remain barred from reporting freely in Gaza, raising concerns about transparency and access to information.
