A day after a heated and chaotic plenary that saw lawmakers clash over several motions, the House of Representatives has reconvened for a special session following new developments regarding contractors’ agitations and pending budget releases.
The decision to reconvene comes after the House had earlier on Tuesday resolved to adjourn proceedings until next week to allow the Executive to address concerns surrounding the non-payment of contractors and delays in fund releasesunder the 2024/2025 budget.
In an internal memorandum signed by Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Clerk of the House of Representatives, members were informed that the House would resume plenary on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
According to the memo, the earlier resolution to adjourn will be rescinded to allow lawmakers to receive a briefing on “encouraging progress achieved” during an executive session.
Tuesday’s plenary had descended into a rowdy outburst, forcing Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu to suspend proceedings following heated disagreements over motions of urgent public importance.
Lawmakers are now expected to deliberate privately as the leadership provides updates on ongoing interventions between the legislature and the executive.
