Spotify, the popular online streaming platform, has introduced ‘Lent Destination’, a special hub aimed at helping Christians observe Lent through spiritual reflection and connection.
In a statement on Thursday, James Propa, Spotify’s Christian and Gospel Specialist for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the hub offers carefully selected worship playlists and Christian podcasts to make it easier for users to find inspiring content for their spiritual journey.
Propa explained that Lent is a period when many Christians slow down to reflect, repent, and grow closer to God, and the new hub is designed to support that process.
The Lent Destination features worship collections like Naija Worship, Praise and Worship, Be Lifted, WorshipNow, and South African Worship. It also includes sermons from well-known pastors such as Apostle Femi Lazarus, Joyce Meyer, and Joel Osteen, alongside lifestyle podcasts offering faith-based advice from creators like Mpoomy Ledwaba and Megan Edwards.
Propa highlighted the rising global popularity of African gospel music, noting that several Nigerian gospel artists have surpassed one million monthly listeners on Spotify. Among them, Victor Thompson leads with 2.1 million listeners, followed by Moses Bliss with 1.2 million, Lawrence Oyor with 1.1 million, and Sunmisola Agbebi with 1 million.
The Lent Destination is now live globally on Spotify and will remain accessible throughout Lent, reinforcing Spotify’s commitment to supporting users from diverse faith backgrounds.
