Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has firmly denied being involved in any royal supremacy dispute with another traditional ruler, dismissing claims circulating online as false and malicious. His statement comes in response to a viral video on YouTube alleging he ordered the assault and arrest of a visiting monarch’s father from the United States.
In the controversial video, the anchor claimed that Alaafin Owoade ordered his men to beat the father of the Oyotunji Village monarch and then handed him over to the police. The Alaafin has described the narrator as a “pathological liar” and said the anchor “should be eternally confined to a dungeon for being heartless in dishing out lies.”
According to a formal statement released by the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the entire video was a fabrication. “The misguided anchor said the action was in attestation of Alaafin Owoade’s supremacy battle with the Ooni of Ife,” he noted, calling the story “cooked up” and disconnected from actual events.
Durojaiye clarified that the Oyotunji monarch, whose village in the U.S. traces its lineage to Oyo Town, had paid a peaceful and respectful visit to the new Alaafin after his coronation. “He was well received by the Alaafin before his departure,” Durojaiye emphasized. “Where then did this online medium… get its own story?”
The statement also highlighted Alaafin Owoade’s integrity and spiritual grounding. “He has been living to please God with a good character and a clean conscience, before his appointment as the 46th Alaafin,” it said, adding that the monarch is focused on unity, progress, and the cultural advancement of the Yoruba people.
In closing, Durojaiye urged the public to disregard the video and its contents, stating clearly: “Alaafin Abimbola Akeem Owoade I is not in royal supremacy battle with anyone.
