Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje have declared that Delta State is poised for transformation under an All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, echoing the developments in neighbouring Edo.
Speaking in Agbor, Delta State, over the weekend during the official defection of members of the Delta Unity Group (DUG) into the APC, both leaders hailed the wave of defections from opposition parties as a sign of growing unity and a boost for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election prospects.
“This is your turn, Delta. Like Edo, you are ready for real governance,” said Okpebholo, praising NDDC Chairman Chiedu Ebie as “an intelligent young man who knows when to move.”
Ganduje described the decampees as “great fighters for democracy,” stating that the APC now commands strong representation in the Senate, House of Representatives, and Delta State House of Assembly. He emphasised that with over 60% of PDP followers joining the APC, the party is confident of taking over the Delta Government House in 2027.
“What we require now is unity of purpose. Very soon, we will convene all major stakeholders, including the Delta Unity Group, to build a stronger, united front,” Ganduje said.
Chiedu Ebie noted that the defection was driven by a belief in good governance and inclusiveness championed by President Tinubu.
During a visit to the Palace of the Dein of Agbor, Dr Benjamin Ikenchukwu (Keagborekuzi I), the monarch called on the president to ensure peace and security, which he described as the foundation for national development.
