The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has summoned all Service Chiefs to a crucial meeting over the recent attacks on military bases in the North-East.
Those currently attending the meeting at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence in Abuja include the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.
Others present are the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass; as well as representatives of the National Intelligence Agency and other security agencies.
According to Daily Trust, no fewer than three Commanding Officers with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel were recently killed by terrorists in Borno State.
In addition to the slain Commanding Officers, scores of soldiers also lost their lives, while hundreds of civilians abducted during the attacks remain in captivity.
Speaking briefly before the meeting went into a closed-door session, the Defence Minister said the gathering was aimed at reviewing strategies to strengthen the fight against terrorism, despite the military recording some casualties.
“We know we have recorded some casualties, but it is more on the side of the terrorists,” the retired four-star general said.
