BREAKING: House of Representatives Suspends Rules Ahead of Joint Sitting for Democracy Day

Proceedings have commenced at the House of Representatives in anticipation of the Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration.

In a dramatic turn, the Speaker of the House of Representatives announced a temporary suspension of the House Rules to allow non-members, including former leaders and dignitaries, access to the chamber in line with Order Twenty-One, Rule 8 of the Standing Orders of the House, which permits such adjustment during special sessions.

Shortly after, the Senate President arrived at the chamber alongside other senators, signaling the formal commencement of the Joint Sitting between both legislative arms.

The session, which is being held at the House of Representatives Chamber, awaits the arrival of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who is expected to deliver a Presidential Address as the Special Guest of Honour.
