BREAKING: Senate Begins Screening of Defence Minister Nominee, General Christopher Musa

The Senate has commenced the screening process for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nominee for Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa.

This follows the presentation of President Tinubu’s letter by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session, formally requesting the upper chamber to confirm the retired military chief.

Akpabio announced that the screening would take place immediately, signalling the Senate’s readiness to fast-track the confirmation.

To enable the process, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion to suspend key rules restricting floor access. The suspension allows General Musa, the President’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, senior Defence Ministry officials, and top military officers to enter the chamber for the session.

Bamidele further disclosed that while the nominee will give brief introductory remarks in open session, the substantive screening will be conducted behind closed doors.
