Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has vowed to accelerate the economic transformation of the state, returning from a three-week annual leave with what he called “renewed vigor and double energy.”
Speaking at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar on Wednesday, Otu assured party members and government officials that his administration’s development blueprint was firmly on track. He expressed confidence that many of his campaign promises were already materializing.
“We had a manifesto to deliver to our people, and to some extent, I believe that in this second year, we can boast that some of those promises are coming to fruition,” Otu stated.
During his leave, the governor said he worked on a critical state assignment, overseeing the acquisition of two aircraft aimed at improving air travel access to and from Calabar. He described the inspection process as painstaking, involving over 200,000 pages of documentation and detailed physical checks.
“We had to go through every bolt, every screw. It was painstaking but necessary to ensure safety and accountability,” he explained, adding that both aircraft were in their final clearance stage and would arrive in the state within weeks.
Otu concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the state’s economic growth, stating: “We have planted the seeds. Now we must nurture them to harvest.”
