In a swift procedural move amid the debate on electoral act amendment Bill, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has appointed Hon. Kelechi Nwogu as acting Minority Leader.
The appointment came during Tuesday’s debate on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja.
This action was taken to fill the temporary void left by the absence of the substantive Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda.
Kalu’s decision was to ensure continuity in the minority caucus’s participation as lawmakers deliberate key amendments to the nation’s electoral framework.
Hon Kelechi Nwogu representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency of Rivers State played the role of the substantial minority leader, Hon Kinsey Chinda.
Nwogu’s acting role was as a result of Hon Chinda’s absence was due to walk out staged by the some members of the opposition to address the parliamentarian correspondents over non adopting real -time transmission of election results by the majority of the the members of the parliament.
The session underscores the House’s commitment to seamless operations despite personnel gaps, with the amendment bill under intense scrutiny from both ruling and opposition lawmakers.
