Martins Innocent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has been granted administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The anti-graft agency confirmed that his release is pending the fulfillment of bail conditions.
The EFCC disclosed on Tuesday that Otse’s arrest stemmed from multiple petitions alleging his involvement in financial crimes. These petitions, the Commission said, raised serious issues that warranted immediate investigation.
Despite receiving several invitations, Otse reportedly failed to honor them, prompting the EFCC to obtain a remand order and detain him lawfully for questioning and investigation.
The agency clarified that while it is aware of Otse’s frequent criticisms and attacks on its operations, those statements did not influence his arrest. “His arrest was based purely on the petitions concerning financial misconduct,” the EFCC emphasized.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process, the Commission assured that Otse’s case is being handled like any other. Once investigations are concluded, the agency said appropriate charges will be filed in court.
The EFCC urged the public to allow it operate independently, stating, “We welcome public interest, but baseless speculations must stop. We remain focused on our duty to fight corruption without fear or favor.
