Kebbi State, Nigeria – November 2025: Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
Malami made the announcement on Monday morning during an interview with DCL Hausa, emphasizing that he has the support of the people of Kebbi.
“INEC guidelines do not allow us to begin any form of mobilisation yet, but I assure you that when the time comes, you will see that we have the support of the people of Kebbi State,” Malami said.
“I have agreed to contest, and there is no retreat. God willing, we are going to win because we have people who believe in us, and we will not let them down,” he added.
Malami Criticizes APC Policies, Cites Northern Hardships
Malami criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for policies he says have worsened economic hardship, particularly in northern Nigeria. He highlighted the impact on farmers, many of whom have been displaced from their farms due to insecurity.
“Today, rice mills that operated actively for 20 years have shut down due to bad policies that favour foreign companies,” Malami stated.
He attributed the challenges to negligence at both the state and federal levels.
Focus on Security, Agriculture, and People’s Interests
The former AGF explained that his governorship bid is aimed at addressing insecurity, reviving agriculture, and protecting the interests of Kebbi residents.
“I am committed to salvaging Kebbi State from insecurity, restoring and reviving farming, and protecting the interests of the people,” Malami said.
He dismissed claims that his political ambition is motivated by personal gain, describing his decision as a rescue mission for the state.
