Makinde Challenges APC Record, Urges Nigerians to Seek Political Reset Ahead of 2027

Governor Seyi Makinde is urging Nigerians to reflect critically on the state of the nation—especially the promises of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding corruption and governance.

In his latest monthly newsletter released Thursday, Makinde questioned whether the corruption that was said to be “killing Nigeria” under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has truly been eradicated under APC rule, or if it has instead taken deeper root.

“Nigerians have tested the APC experiment for a decade now. It’s time to ask the hard questions: Has corruption really died, or has it been fertilised and reborn?” he asked.

Calling for a national reset, the governor urged citizens to begin seeking alternatives that can rebuild trust in democracy and reposition the country for prosperity. “This is the moment for all forward-thinking Nigerians to engage and prepare for a better political future,” he said.

Makinde also highlighted the recent PDP Governors’ Forum hosted in Ibadan as a key step in uniting the opposition and preparing for the journey toward the 2027 elections.

He emphasized that governance must take priority over politics, noting that while electioneering occupies less than a year in a cycle, leadership spans several. “I remain committed to serving the people of Oyo State diligently until May 29, 2027. I will not be distracted,” he stated.

Addressing speculation about his potential successor, Makinde said the question was premature. “All will be revealed in due course. For now, we are focused on evaluating our progress and ensuring that the final two years of this administration are the best yet.”
