The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has revealed that Nigeria recorded over 19,000 fibre cuts and $1 billion in new broadband investments between January and August 2025. Speaking at a business roundtable in Abuja, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, emphasized that connectivity is central to Nigeria’s economic growth, security, and inclusion. He highlighted the government’s efforts under the National Broadband Plan (2020–2025) to achieve 70% penetration and  90,000 kilometres of fibre coverage by the end of 2025.

Maida praised  11 states for waiving  Right of Way (RoW) fees and called on others to align with national policies to attract investment and accelerate broadband rollout. He also announced the upcoming launch of an Ease of Doing Business Portal and a  Nigeria Digital Connectivity Index to track each state’s digital readiness.

He urged stronger protection of telecom assets, noting that broadband infrastructure has become as vital as energy and transportation networks to Nigeria’s economic future.
