Owen Goodman Shines in League Two

English-born goalkeeper Owen Goodman, who has Nigerian and Canadian roots, has earned a spot in the English Football League’s Team of the Season for League Two after a standout campaign with AFC Wimbledon. The 21-year-old also scooped the club’s Young Player of the Year Award for the 2024/25 season.

Goodman, whose mother hails from Nigeria, helped his team finish sixth in the league, securing a place in the promotion playoffs. On loan from Crystal Palace’s U21 squad, he has proven to be a key part of AFC Wimbledon’s success this season.

Over the course of 44 appearances, Goodman kept 21 clean sheets—a remarkable feat that underscores his consistency and sharp reflexes. He also featured in two FA Cup ties and three EFL Cup matches, gaining valuable experience across competitions.

AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson praised the young shot-stopper for his maturity and growth. Goalkeeping coach Ashley Bayes said Goodman has adapted well and shown big strides, not just in skill but also in personality and team chemistry.

“He’s learning every day,” Bayes remarked. “We’ve really seen his personality come through. He’s not just becoming a better keeper—he’s growing as a person, too.”

Goodman played a total of 4,410 minutes this season. His journey includes stints at Colchester United and Crystal Palace’s youth setups. Internationally, he has featured for both England and Canada at U21 level, keeping his options open for the senior national teams.
