Senate Directs IGP Disu to Probe Plateau Killings, Sends Delegation to Affected Communities

The Nigerian Senate has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to begin a comprehensive investigation into the recent wave of killings in Anguwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Lawmakers expressed deep concern over the incident, which reportedly claimed no fewer than 28 lives, and urged security agencies to ensure those behind the attack are identified and brought to justice.

As part of its response, the Senate announced plans to dispatch a high-level delegation, to be led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to visit the affected communities and sympathize with victims and residents.

The development followed a motion raised by Senator Diket Plang and Senator Dachung Mwadkon, who highlighted growing security threats in parts of Plateau State, particularly in Kanam and Jos North local government areas.

During deliberations, Senator Plang noted that Plateau State, once widely regarded for its peaceful environment and tourism appeal, is again facing recurring security challenges after a period of stability.

He drew attention to recent violent incidents in Kanam earlier in the month, as well as the attack in Anguwan Rukuba on March 29, 2026, which disrupted normal daily activities and heightened fears among residents.
