Kebbi Governor Sets Up Probe Panel Over Persistent Power Outages

Frustrated by the persistent power outages plaguing Birnin Kebbi metropolis, Governor Nasir Idris has announced the formation of a high-level investigative committee to address the crisis attributed to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO).

Speaking after the inaugural meeting of the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Idris disclosed that the state government disburses ₦150 million monthly to KAEDCO, with an additional ₦50 million from his personal funds—yet residents continue to suffer from unreliable electricity supply.

“We have done our part,” he said. “We purchased 75 transformers and other critical equipment on KAEDCO’s advice, but the situation has not improved. This problem is not from the government; it is from KAEDCO.”

To get to the bottom of the issue, the governor said he has appointed his deputy to lead a committee tasked with uncovering the root causes of the power supply failures and recommending lasting solutions.

The move signals a tougher stance by the Kebbi government amid growing public frustration and demands for accountability from power distribution companies.
