Tinubu Reduces Dialysis Cost in Federal Hospitals to ₦12,000

President Bola Tinubu has approved a subsidy to significantly cut the cost of kidney dialysis in federal government-owned hospitals, bringing the fee down from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000 per session.

The announcement was made on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Dare explained that the subsidy is already being implemented in major federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across the country’s six geopolitical zones. Benefiting facilities include the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta; FMC, Jabi, Abuja; University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan; FMC, Owerri; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH); FMC, Abeokuta; Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH); FMC, Azare; University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH); and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

He also noted that more federal hospitals would be added to the programme before the end of the year to ensure wider access nationwide.

This initiative builds on last year’s policy where President Tinubu approved free caesarean sections (C-sections) in federal hospitals, aimed at reducing maternal deaths and improving access to essential healthcare services.
