The Chairman of the Zoning Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and Governor of Bayelsa State, Duoye Diri, has clarified that the party did not micro-zone its leadership positions.
Governor Diri made this known on Monday in Abuja while briefing journalists at the end of the PDP Zoning Committee meeting, held ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting.
Governor Diri explained that the deliberations of the committee were strictly centered on zoning positions between the North and South and stressed that the body had no mandate to carry out micro-zoning of offices to particular states or regions within the zones.
The Bayelsa Governor noted that the zoning arrangement was part of preparations for the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Elective Convention scheduled for November 2025.
He maintained that the move was to ensure inclusivity and balance in the distribution of key leadership positions across the country.
According to him, the responsibility of the Zoning Committee is limited to recommending broad arrangements between the North and South, while any details would be left to the wider party organs to decide.
Governor Diri maintained that the decision to zone the presidency had already been concluded at an earlier meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum in Gusau, Zamfara State.
