Expulsion of Wike, Fayose, Others From PDP Did Not Follow Due Process — Dachung Bagos

A former House of Representatives member representing Jos South-East Constituency, Dachung Bagos, has criticized the recent expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and 10 other leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the action as procedurally flawed.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Bagos said the disciplinary measures taken by the Umar Damagum-led PDP resembled actions “taken at a market square” because they did not follow the party’s constitution.

“They are supposed to have a disciplinary committee before suspending or expelling someone with just a voice vote,” he said.

When asked whether the disciplinary actions were overdue, Bagos emphasized that due process is more important than timing.

“For me, that’s where I stand. Even if it were now or late, you need to follow proper house cleaning procedures. If due process isn’t observed, the outcome will be flawed,” he said.

He also expressed pessimism over the party’s current crisis:

“We shouldn’t be political with the truth. As it stands, I don’t see light at the end of the tunnel.”

PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, and Others

During its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, the PDP expelled Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and the party’s national secretary Samuel Anyanwu for alleged anti-party activities.

Other expelled leaders included Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, Mohammed Abdulrahman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austine Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner, and Chief Dan Orbih.

The expulsion motion was moved by PDP chieftain Bode George and seconded by the PDP Bauchi State chairman, with Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State facilitating the vote. Delegates from various states ratified the decision during the convention.

Governors Split on Expulsion Decision

The expulsion did not receive full support from all PDP governors. Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, also chairman of the PDP 2025 Elective National Convention, opposed the move, arguing it was not in the party’s best interest.

Similarly, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang noted that the proposal was neither discussed by the PDP Governors’ Forum nor the National Executive Committee (NEC) and did not reflect his position. He stressed that expelling senior party leaders at this time was not a strategic solution to the PDP’s internal challenges.

The decision has added a new dimension to the ongoing crisis within the opposition party, highlighting deep divisions among its leadership.
