Tinubu: Four Attack Helicopters to Arrive Soon as Community, State Police Take Shape

President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that four attack helicopters ordered from the United States will arrive in Nigeria soon as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security response amid rising insecurity.

The President made the disclosure on Friday while meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence.

Tinubu said the Federal Government is taking concrete steps to overhaul the nation’s security architecture, including plans to establish community and state police once the required legislative processes are completed by the National Assembly.

According to him, delays in the delivery of critical military equipment have affected public perception of the administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, noting that military hardware is costly and not readily available.

“Our orders for four attack helicopters from the United States will take some time to arrive. We have also approached Turkey for support,” the President said.

The disclosure comes amid heightened security operations in the North-West, where Nigerian authorities have confirmed coordinated actions with international partners to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nigeria remains engaged in structured security cooperation with countries including the United States, adding that the collaboration has resulted in precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in the region.

President Tinubu reaffirmed that his administration is not relenting in its efforts to restore peace and stability across the country, despite the evolving tactics employed by bandits and insurgent groups.

He stressed that the introduction of community and state policing remains a priority, describing it as a necessary step toward addressing security challenges at the grassroots level.

The President assured Nigerians that ongoing reforms and security measures will deliver results, calling for patience and cooperation as the government continues its efforts to return the country to peace and prosperity.
