30 Killed, Several Abducted as Bandits Attack Zamfara Community

No fewer than 30 persons have been killed, with several others abducted, following a deadly bandit attack on Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attack occurred late Thursday night and continued into the early hours of Friday, as armed men stormed the community in large numbers.

Residents said the assailants, who arrived on motorcycles, blocked all entry and exit routes before opening fire indiscriminately and carrying out mass abductions.

“After blocking all the roads, the bandits started shooting on sight. Villagers ran in different directions for safety. After the attack, we discovered that about 30 people were killed, some were injured, while several others are still missing,” a resident said.

In response, Governor Dauda Lawal has directed his deputy, Mani Mumuni, to visit the affected community to commiserate with victims and deliver the government’s message of condolence.

As of the time of filing this report, police authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Zamfara remains one of the North-West states worst hit by banditry, alongside Kebbi State, Kaduna State, Sokoto State, and Katsina State, where armed groups frequently carry out attacks linked to rural violence and resource-based conflicts.

The latest attack comes amid a wave of violence across the region. On February 18, gunmen reportedly killed dozens of people and razed seven villages in parts of Kebbi State.

According to police authorities, members of the Lakurawa group carried out coordinated attacks on communities in the Bui district of Arewa Local Government Area.
