Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said pressure from the United States on Iran has reached a critical and dangerous stage.

Pezeshkian made the statement in India on Friday ahead of the BRICS summit, saying the world was going through a period of unprecedented complexity.

He said Iran had faced heavy sanctions in recent years, adding that the pressure had increased following what he described as military attacks by the United States and Israel.

The Iranian president said economic pressure on Iran’s trade, energy, infrastructure and financial system could have effects beyond the country’s borders.

Iran responded to the conflict by restricting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global energy supplies, leading to a rise in energy prices.

Pezeshkian is on his first official visit to India and is expected to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
