Former senator representing Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo, has clinched the Labour Party governorship ticket for Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His emergence as the party’s candidate followed his clearance and endorsement by the Labour Party national leadership on Saturday, days after undergoing screening at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
With the nomination secured, Abbo is expected to face candidates from other major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, Ahmed Galadima, and Aishatu Binani of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, in what is shaping up to be a competitive governorship race.
In his post-nomination remarks, Abbo pledged to focus on inclusive governance, economic recovery, youth empowerment and infrastructure development across Adamawa State. He also stressed the need to improve access to jobs, education, healthcare and security.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, the former lawmaker expressed confidence in his chances at the polls, declaring:
“By this time next year, 29th May 2027, I will be sworn in as Governor of Adamawa State. Congratulate me in advance.”
His emergence is expected to intensify political activity in Adamawa as parties begin broader mobilisation and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abbo is also expected to commence consultations across the state’s 21 local government areas as he seeks to consolidate support for his governorship ambition.
