The National Assembly has stopped all official visits to South Africa and ordered lawmakers and officials to boycott legislative activities organised by South African authorities until further notice.
The House of Representatives spokesman, Akin Rotimi, announced this in a statement on Friday.
He said the decision followed reports of continued xenophobic attacks, violence and destruction of property targeting Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa.
The National Assembly said it was concerned by reports that Nigerians had been killed, injured, displaced and forced to leave their businesses, homes and other properties.
The Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, said the decision followed talks between the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The order covers official visits, conferences, seminars, meetings, parliamentary exchanges and other legislative activities organised or hosted by South African authorities.
It applies to lawmakers, committees, officials and staff of the National Assembly, and covers both physical and virtual meetings.
The National Assembly said no member or official can take part in the activities without the approval of its leadership.
