17 Reps Members Defect from ADC to NDC in Major Political Shift

17 House of Representatives members have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defections were announced during plenary on Tuesday.

The lawmakers who joined the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, Munachim Umezuruike, Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.

Meanwhile, Leke Abejide also left the ADC for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defections mark a fresh wave of political realignments in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development comes two days after former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Musa Kwankwaso joined the NDC.

Both politicians received their party membership cards on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with party leaders.

They were received into the party by former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.

Peter Obi said he left the ADC due to rising political tension, internal crises, and increasing hostility within party structures.

He described the political environment as toxic, adding that intimidation and insecurity have become common in the system.
