The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has emerged unopposed as the All Progressives Congress candidate for Zaria Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation exercise took place across the 13 electoral wards in the constituency, where registered party members endorsed his candidacy.
The wards include Kwarbai A, Kwarbai B, Limancin-Kona, Unguwar Fatika, Unguwar Juma, Dutsen Abba, Gyallesu, Kufena, Dambo, Wuchichiri, Tudun Wada, Tukur-Tukur, and Kaura.
The exercise started around 10 a.m. on Saturday and recorded a large turnout of APC members at various ward offices.
At Kwarbai B Ward, the Speaker’s ward, party officials conducted the exercise peacefully under the supervision of a returning officer, Malam Iliyasu Muhammad Balarabe.
Party officials said Abbas was the only aspirant cleared for the contest, leading to his affirmation by members present.
At the collation centre, the APC Returning Officer for Zaria Federal Constituency, Dr. Hamisu Ibrahim Kubau, announced that 1,376 party members across the 13 wards affirmed Abbas as the party’s candidate.
He declared the Speaker returned unopposed and said the exercise was peaceful with the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Chairman of the APC House of Representatives primary elections in Kaduna State, Senator Yakubu Oseni, described the outcome as a sign of the Speaker’s popularity and support at the grassroots.
In his remarks, Abbas thanked party members for their support and promised to continue working for effective representation.
He also urged constituents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
