Gunmen have abducted former Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar (retd.), and his wife in Katsina State.
The incident reportedly occurred along the Matazu axis of the state while the couple was travelling.
A military source confirmed on Saturday that efforts were already underway to secure their safe release.
According to reports, the couple was attacked during the journey, while their driver reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.
Their vehicle, a red Peugeot 406, was later recovered and handed over to a police division in the area.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
